Usually it is enough for the animal to eat 40 pounds of meat a day but sometimes the hunt is so successful and there is more meat than is necessary, that an animal may eat up to 100 pounds of it. Newborn cubs feed on their mother's milk, and start eating meat at 6-8 weeks old. At this time, they begin to follow their mother on hunting trips and thus master this life-saving art. They can hunt independently by age of 1.5-2 years old.
